Chicken Soup for the Souls Hidden Heroes
Growing vegetables is fun and it so great to help people. If I can do it anyone can. It doesn’t take a huge garden just a pot on your front porch with one vegetable plant can make a difference.

Sponsor a Katie’s Krops Dinner and Help Us End Hunger
For the past six years’ a dedicated group of youth volunteers in Summerville, South Carolina have come together to focus their energy on ending hunger one vegetable garden, one harvest, one dinner, one meal at a time at Katie’s Krops Dinners. This amazing group of children devoted 628 hours preparing and serving 2,347 meals at 12 dinners in 2016. We need your support to help continue to serve healthy free meals to individuals and families in need in our community in 2017.
The concept is simple. Youth volunteers grow vegetable gardens where the whole harvest is donated to feed people in need. Once a month our youth volunteers gather their harvest and prepare a healthy meal for anyone in need under the direction of a volunteer head chef. The menu is based on the harvest in the gardens, and what they cannot grow they purchase. The meals are served at Summerville Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall and on average our young crew serves 195 meals per dinner. The guests of the dinner are families in our own community battling food insecurity, homelessness, life altering medical diagnosis, unemployment and families who need additional support at the end of the month as food stamps run out.
The Katie’s Krops Dinner was started by Katie Stagliano, Founder of Katie’s Krops when she was only 12-years-old. When the only full-time soup kitchen in Summerville was forced to suddenly shut their doors for financial reasons Katie knew she needed to do something to help fill the void for families struggling in Summerville and the Tri County Area. With tremendous support from community members Katie has been able to serve Katie’s Krops Dinner for over 6 years without missing a single month. We hope that can continue in 2017.
We are currently seeking 2017 Katie’s Krops Dinner sponsors. You can sponsor a dinner for only $250 dollars. That is less than $1.30 a meal. These miraculous children have become very savvy in budgeting and are able to provide a healthy, well balanced meal for a large number of people at a small cost.
Katie’s Krops is a 501c3 and your donation is tax-deductible and can be made via check or on-line using our support our cause link at the top of the page. Checks can be mailed to:
