Let’s Get Growing! with a Master Gardener – A 5-week Series for Young Gardeners (Ages 8+)

Join us for an exciting new series with Clemson Extension Master Gardener Lisa Turocy! Through hands-on learning experiences, we’ll explore the best way to start a garden and also learn about fungus and diseases, bugs in the garden, compost, and native vs invasive species. During each class meeting, Lisa will share research-based gardening knowledge, expert instruction, and provide her students with practical experience in the garden.

Program Details

  • This program will run bi-weekly and meet on the following dates: Sept. 9, 23; Oct 7, 21; and Nov 4th, from 1:30 – 3:00, unless otherwise communicated.
  • This program is 100% outdoors. We may need to reschedule or adjust meeting times in the event of inclement weather (ex: rain/thunderstorms, extreme/dangerous temperatures). We will make every effort to provide as much notice as possible.
  • This class is designed for learners ages 8+ but may be suitable for children as young as 6, depending upon knowledge/experience.
  • Registration and class fees are due upon registration and are nonrefundable unless the class series is canceled.

Program Purpose

The purpose of this learning series is to provide an enrichment opportunity for homeschool children to interact, socialize, collaborate with and learn alongside a consistent peer group. The Katie’s Krops flagship garden will be the backdrop for all learning and will provide opportunities for exploration and discovery as well as a connection to food, the natural world around them, each other, and their community.

Participants should possess age-appropriate social and emotional skills, be comfortable outdoors for long periods of time, and should be able to stay focused during hour-long learning sessions and hands-on activities with varying degrees of assistance and guidance.

While we will make every effort to ensure all participants feel welcome and provide them with a fun and supportive learning environment, students should want to be outdoors and participate in the learning process. They should be able to follow instructions and appropriately interact with, learn with, and work alongside peers and educators.

This class series is made possible by the incredibly generous support of donors, Clemson Extension Master Gardener Lisa, and supporters like you. Class fees help purchase supplies for activities, operate the program, and sustain the Outdoor Classroom.

ENROLLMENT MINIMUM

A minimum of 5 students is required for this program to run.  If we don’t meet the minimum, your fee will be returned in full.
