Starting Seeds with a Master Gardener (Ages 10+)

How do we start a garden from scratch? Why is it important to understand the science of seeds and soil?

Join Clemson Extension Master Gardener Lisa Turocy for an engaging, hands-on 90-minute class designed for homeschoolers ages 10 and up. In this interactive session, we’ll dive into the basics of seed starting, from choosing the right seeds to understanding the perfect conditions for growth. Learners will discover essential techniques for sowing, nurturing, and caring for their own garden.

Through step-by-step instructions, visual aids, and real-world examples, students will gain the knowledge needed to jumpstart their gardening journey at home. By the end of the class, each participant will take home a variety of seeds and supplies to plant their own garden, ready to grow and thrive.

After the hands-on portion, there will be an open Q&A session, offering students the chance to ask questions and share their excitement for gardening.

This class is recommended for learners ages 10+. We encourage students to come with a genuine interest in the subject and an eagerness for active participation.  With MG Lisa’s expertise, they will gain a deeper understanding of plant biology, gardening, and fostering scientific inquiry, and critical thinking skills.

While we love our gardening friends of all ages, this class is best suited for children ages 10 and up, but may be adapted for participants as young as 8. We kindly ask unregistered children do not attend.

A minimum of 5 registrations is required for this program to run. A caregiver must be present.
