Katie Stagliano named Lowcountry’s Remarkable Woman in 2026
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – When Katie Stagliano was a little girl, she did something big. At age 9, she grew a 40‑pound cabbage and donated it to a local soup kitchen, helping feed hundreds of people.
Realizing she could make a meaningful difference, planted a seed in her heart and mind. She decided she wanted to work to end hunger and food insecurity — and she has spent the years since doing exactly that.
“I was just in the third grade when I brought home a tiny cabbage seedling that grew to be a 40‑pound cabbage and quite literally changed the trajectory of my life,” Stagliano said. “I honestly have no idea why my cabbage grew to be that big; I think that everything happens for a reason.”
Stagliano believes the cabbage grew so large to encourage her to discover her passion for helping people facing hunger.
