World.
The idea for Katie’s Krops began with a 9-year-old girl and a 40 pound cabbage. In 2008 Katie brought home a tiny cabbage seedling from school as part of the Bonnie Plants Third Grade Cabbage Program. She tended to her cabbage and cared for it until it grew to an amazing 40 pounds. Knowing her cabbage was special, she donated to a soup kitchen where it helped feed over 275 people. Moved by the experience of seeing how many people could benefit from the donation of fresh produce to soup kitchens, Katie decided to start vegetable gardens and donate the harvest to help feed people in need.

Katie’s Krops now has 100 gardens growing across the country and has donated thousands and thousands of pounds of fresh produce to people in need. The mission of Katie’s Krops is to empower youth to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes and donate the harvest to help feed people in need, as well as to assist and inspire others to do the same.

🌟 A huge THANK YOU to Tommy’s Car Wash for their incredible support! 🌟
Thanks to the amazing fundraiser at their Old Trolley Rd. location, our 15th Anniversary Katie’s Krops Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 9th will be extra special for our neighbors in need.
As we prepare to celebrate this milestone, here’s how you can help make the evening unforgettable:
🥘 Cornbread – We’re serving cornbread with the meal to bring extra warmth and love to the table. We need 31 pans (9x13 size) of homemade cornbread! ✨ Message us to learn how to share some ✨
🥛 Milk – A simple glass of milk has become one of the most meaningful parts of our dinners. For this meal, we need 130 half-gallons to share with every family.
🍪 Desserts – Cookies, brownies, or other individually wrapped desserts bring so much joy, and lately, we’ve been running out before everyone gets one.
💚 Every pan of cornbread, every half-gallon of milk, every dessert—it all adds up to a celebration of 15 years of growing, giving, and feeding it forward. We are so grateful to Tommy’s and to YOU for helping us share this special night with our community.

15 years ago, a chance encounter changed my life forever. I was just 12 when Ms. Gladys stopped by our yard sale, curious about the little veggie seedlings I had to share. She told me about God’s Kitchen Food Pantry at Murray United Methodist Church and invited me to bring my harvest there.
That simple conversation blossomed into one of the most meaningful relationships of my life and made Murray United Methodist Church one of my favorite places to visit and share fresh food with our community.
In 2023, we lost Ms. Gladys, but her kindness and love live on. One of the greatest honors of my life was delivering her eulogy and sharing how deeply she touched my heart.
As we celebrate 15 years, we honor not only a partnership but the legacy of love and service she began—a legacy that continues to nourish our community 🌱❤️

Success doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful, sometimes the quietest wins matter the most. I challenge you to celebrate ALL the small wins for yourself and those around you; let’s redefine how we measure success 💛

As your fall gardens flourish, remember—every harvest, no matter the size, can make a difference 💚 Our amazing Katie’s Krops growers remind us daily of the power one garden holds in the fight against hunger. I encourage you to share extra harvests from your garden with your community! Let’s keep planting, sharing, and spreading hope—one vegetable garden at a time. 🌱✨

Thirteen years ago today, I had the incredible honor of being recognized as the youngest recipient of the Clinton Global Initiative Global Citizen Award for Leadership in Civil Society.
At just 14 years old, I stood on that stage as Matt Damon presented the award, an unforgettable moment that celebrated the work of Katie’s Krops—my nonprofit that empowers youth to grow gardens and share the harvest with those in need.
Looking back, it’s amazing to see how one small seed of an idea can grow into something that nourishes so many—both literally and figuratively. Grateful for the recognition, the inspiration, and every young gardener who continues this mission today.

It’s a pepper palooza! Today we harvested an incredible 126 lbs of bell peppers and jalapeños to share with our friends at the Murray Church Food Pantry tomorrow morning 💚 Proof that peppers thrive in the fall—and so does community!

🌼 Adding pollinators like marigolds to the garden doesn’t just attract the bees—it’s also the perfect way to brighten someone’s day! The sweet 4th grade students at Beech Hill shared marigolds from their garden with teachers and staff, and we absolutely love seeing these smiles straight from the garden! 💛🐝

Fall may have fewer pests than spring, but our #1 fall troublemaker is the cabbage looper. These little worms can quickly devour your plants if you don’t act fast!
At the first sign of holes in your leaves, it’s time to hunt down the loopers—and don’t forget the eggs! With no pesticides needed, just your hands, you can say goodbye to these pesky critters and keep your plants thriving with one good smush!

There’s someone special I’d love to ✨officially✨ introduce y’all to, my fiancé, Jason!
He’s embraced Katie’s Krops (+ all the fun and crazy chaos that comes with running a nonprofit) with open arms and is my biggest supporter, from the gardens to the dinners and everything in between. He truly has the biggest heart for others, and I couldn’t be more grateful for him.
You’ll definitely be seeing more of him around here 🤭💍🤍!!

Kale yeah, it’s the fall equinox! Celebrate by getting your hands dirty with new fall crops. Before you know it, you’ll be harvesting a bounty to enjoy and share. Here are a few of our favorite Bonnie harvests from last fall 🥦🧡✨

The community truly showed up today for our neighbors in need, and we could not be more grateful! 💚 Thank you to everyone who shared milk, baked homemade desserts, and helped deliver meals.
One of our guests shared that as a single mom, it’s such a blessing to know that one night a month she doesn’t have to worry about putting food on the table.
What a gift it is to serve our community. We are stronger together! ✨

My journey started with a single seedling that grew into a 40-pound cabbage—and with it, a movement that has touched lives across the country.
That cabbage wasn’t just a vegetable. It was a catalyst for change. It opened my eyes to what’s possible when you believe in yourself, take action, and share your gifts with others. 🌱
We all have a ‘40-pound cabbage’ moment—the spark that shifts our perspective, inspires us to act, and shows us we’re capable of more than we ever imagined. For some, it’s overcoming a challenge. For others, it’s a simple act of kindness or a dream carried since childhood.
So I ask you: what’s your 40-pound cabbage? What’s your catalyst for change?

Saying goodbye to summer in the garden, and welcoming in the slow rhythm of fall! How blessed are we to be able to grow and enjoy the garden year around 💛🌱

We are firm believers that the garden is one of the most powerful learning tools! This update from our amazing growers at Beech Hill Elementary is a wonderful example of utilizing the garden as a teacher 🤩🌱
“This group of boys has been working this week on putting together a raised bed to complete the expansion of our lower school gardens. What a treat to watch them problem solve, count, measure, etc., as they work on a real-life project!”
Sep 13

We love how excited and passionate our young growers are! Joseph’s energy is contagious and we love seeing his garden thrive and the difference he is making in his community, one harvest at a time 🤩
Sep 12

They say it takes a village, and our village is full of incredible youth who are always ready to dig in and give back to their neighbors in need. Here’s to all the smiles from our first round of fall planting 🤩

An exciting check in with our incredible growers from Lydia’s Mission in South Africa 💚 We are so honored to be a part of their journey and support their amazing work!
“Majority of the food that we grow in our gardens goes out to feed the community here in South Africa. August we grew 4824.11 pounds of food. Attached is a special meal we did at a new rural location for 139 kiddos enjoying some of our veggies from our garden!”
Sep 9

If you live in USDA Hardiness Zones 7–10, the garden is calling your name! September is your time to plant and enjoy all the unique benefits of a fall garden; cooler weather, fewer pests, and less stress!
Vegetables like kale, collards, cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage thrive when planted now, and some taste even better after a touch of frost.
Don’t miss your planting window—it’s the start of something wonderful! 💚
