Volunteer with Katie’s Krops & Help Us Grow
Katie’s Krops gardens grow with a lot love and support from our amazing volunteers. We are based in Summerville, South Carolina and we are always in need of volunteers to support our efforts. If you live in the Summerville area how can you help?
Help in the Garden-
On Saturday, March 19th we will host our first garden work day of 2016, in our flagship garden in Summerville. We will prepare our garden for spring planting by: amending rows, cleaning up garden debris, weeding, paint our garden shed, painting and weatherproofing our outdoor furniture and so much more. To sign up to volunteer for this garden work day please e-mail MasterGardener@KatiesKrops.com. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join us. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All volunteers must sign up in advance.
Volunteer in our Flagship Garden this Summer:
Summer is our busiest season in the garden. We are always in need of volunteers to help maintaining our garden and help harvest our crops. We organize weekly garden work days over the summer. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all time. To be placed on our volunteer email list please contact MasterGardener@KatiesKrops.com with the subject line, “Please Add Me to The Volunteer List”.

Celebrating Five Year of Garden to Table Dinners & The First Responders of Our Community
On Thursday, October 22nd we will celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Katie’s Krops Garden to Table Dinner. As we thought about how we wanted to honor and celebrate this milestone, we thought about the heroes of our community, those individuals who rarely get the praise they deserve, those who serve and protect us every day, those who have been there for Katie’s Krops and the families we serve. The answer became very clear. For our 5th anniversary dinner we want to celebrate the first responders of our community: the police, the firemen and women and the EMS.
Thank you for everything you have done for our community, Katie’s Krops and for my family.
Thank you to the Summerville Fire Department for saving our garden at Spann Elementary. When the water at the school was turned off for an extended period of time for construction there was no way to water the garden. We were on the verge of losing all of the crops that feed students in need at the school. Summerville Fire Station 5 came to the rescue and watered the raised beds and saved the garden.
The families we help have become our extended family. They are families struggling with hunger, homelessness, illness and poverty. When a family we care deeply for received a welfare check, the deputy looked at their home which was in disrepair and asked if they needed help. The response was grateful yes! That weekend the officer gathered his friends and came back to the home. The team, which was led by the officer cleaned, and made needed repairs to the home for the family.
My brother has been by my side, helping to grow Katie’s Krops since 2008. He works in the garden and helps at the dinners. I would not be where I am today without him. This summer while on the pool deck, he suffered a seizure. Within moments the fire fighters were there to render immediate aid. The EMS workers quickly followed and provided him with excellent care and transported him to the hospital. I am forever grateful for the care my brother received that day.
These are just a few examples of why we want to honor the first responders of our community on October 22nd.
Our Anniversary Dinner will be held on Thursday, October 22nd in the Fellowship Hall at Summerville Baptist Church. This extra special dinner will be served at 6pm. The doors will open at 5:30pm. As always, the dinner is hot, healthy and free.
Please join us as we celebrate 5 years of our garden to table dinner and those who serve and protect our community.

12-Year-Old Madi Sutton Named 2015 Katie’s Krops Grower of the Year
We are thrilled to announce 12-year-old Madi Sutton of North Carolina is the 2015 Katie’s Krops Grower of the Year. Madi has been growing with Katie’s Krops for three year. Last year alone, Madi grew and donated 2,400 pounds of produce from her garden. In addition to growing, Madi raised $1,000 for Katie’s Krops by writing and winning a grant that will help keep Katie’s Krops growing. “It feels really good to be able to give back,” said Madi Sutton, “I try to increase how much I grow and how much I donate every year.”
Madi was one of fourteen Katie’s Krops growers chosen to attend the 3rd Annual Katie’s Krops Camp sponsored by W.P. Rawl this July where she was presented with the award. “Madi truly embodies the spirit of Katie’s Krops. She goes above and beyond each and every year. We are thrilled to be able to present her with this award and scholarship,” notes Stacy Stagliano, President of Katie’s Krops.
In addition to growing and raising funds for Katie’s Krops, Madi speaks about her efforts to grow a healthy end to hunger. Madi has shared her story with Upward Elementary School, First Baptist Church East Flat Rock, and also with Vacation Bible School at Mud Creek Baptist Church.

Dive in for the Second Annual Dive in to End Hunger
Dive in and help us end hunger!
The first annual Katie’s Krops Dive In To End Hunger event last summer was a great success and accomplished our goal to build the fence around the flagship garden to prevent the deer from eating our crops. Many of our supporters urged us to continue this event yearly as a great way to encourage youth to continue supporting their community. We will use this year’s funds to sustain all 80 of the Katie’s Krops gardens across the United States, continue to empower kids to find a healthy way to end hunger, and continue to hold our monthly Katie’s Krops Dinner for our community in need.
The Second Annual Dive in to End Hunger will be held on Tuesday, July 21st at Pine Forest Country Club in Summerville, South Carolina from 4 to 7pm.
Swimmers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate in this fun and healthy fundraising event! How can you participate?
