Native and Invasive Plants with a Master Gardener (Ages 10+)

What is the difference between a native and an invasive plant?  Why are native plants important? Why should we care?

Join Clemson Extension Master Gardener Lisa Turocy for an engaging 90-minute presentation that dives deep into the fascinating and sometimes controversial topic of native vs. invasive plants. Guided by our expert instructor, learners will explore the critical differences between native and invasive plants. Through visuals, real-world examples, and rich information, we’ll learn why native plants are vital for a healthy ecosystem and how invasive species can disrupt the balance and impact local wildlife and beyond.

This presentation will cover definitions, impactful examples, and pictures of both native plants and the wildlife they support, as well as invasive plants and the environmental damage they cause.

After the main presentation, there will be a short Q&A session, providing a perfect opportunity for students to engage with the material and ask an expert their questions.

While we love our gardening friends of all ages, this class is best suited for children ages 10 and up, but may be adapted for participants as young as 8. We kindly ask unregistered children do not attend.
